New Role for William Petersen

Billy is set to appear in an upcoming mini-series about the Civil War called To Appomattox. Filming is set to start in Spring.

The mini-series has some big names attached such as Michael C Hall (Dexter), Bill Paxton and Paul Giamatti, and has reportedly been picked up by HBO (not 100% confirmed).

Check out the mini-series website.

I was wondering when you were going to get around to posting this. You’ve known about this for a while 😛

I know, but the last time I looked I didn’t see his name on the website, and yes that was several months ago, I was reminded about it this morning 🙂

I guess I’ll be subscribing to HBO. I’ve managed to avoid it for… let’s just say many years, leave it to Billy to change that.

What a great role for WP. And thankfully he wasn’t cast as a Southerner and won’t have to try using a dreadful faked accent. As a child of the South, I have mixed feelings, since Sherman is probably the most hated Union General in the region. While his troops carried his orders far beyond his intentions, he was the man in charge and is still blamed for needless destruction not only of the land but of the people of Georgia on his march through the state. For many Southernes, this was the event that changed things from a dispute over points of view to outright hatred of the North. And btw, my Georgia ancestors never owned slaves and despite the Northern view of history, neither did most Southerners. The large planters held most of the slaves with some of the smaller farmers owning one or two. But most of the smaller farmers couldn’t afford the cost of buying and then feeding slaves year round.

Before you blow me off as a skin-head red neck, let me say that while I am not proud that some of my ancestors did own slaves, I am proud that they all came to a new country, some as early as Jamestown, some as indentured slaves, and some as second or third sons of English nobility, and they carved out a civilization. And btw, I am just as proud of my Mayflower ancestors.

We would never do such a thing. I’m sure your comments will help those who have never studied the Civil War to learn more about it, rather than assume.

Sherman’s ‘March to the Sea” is what he was most famous for. For those interested in learning more about this campaign The History Channel has info and several clips http://www.history.com/topics/william-t-sherman and one of there shows is featured in full on youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QosRj_7rBRk
