Chris Jones of the Chicago Tribune has written about Steppenwolf’s 2011/2012 season. Billy is set to return to Steppenwolf in THE MARCH. A snippet from the article is below
The spring Steppenwolf centerpiece will be “The March,” a premiering dramatic adaptation by Frank Galati from the novel by E.L. Doctorow. Featuring a cast of 17 plus three musicians, “The March” will mark William Petersen’s return to Steppenwolf in the role of Uncle Billy.

General William Tecumseh Sherman, Uncle Billy to his men, marches 62,000 Union soldiers through lush Georgia countryside. Bearing along both black and white refugees, the march destroys everything in its path, turning home into exile and exile into home. Its epic force forever changes the lives of those caught up in its sweep: a liberated slave, a sheltered daughter of a Southern judge, a pair of Confederate deserters and Uncle Billy himself.
The March is a story of momentous upheaval and the limits of courage and love.
0.0 Nothing like a pleasant surprise! Guess we have our time frame for our Chicago trip this year… Gonna have to call Steppenwolf about tickets!
Thanks for the information. I’m always anxious for news of Billy. Curious that would make the same role in the HBO miniseries to Appomattox.
Interesting. A tie in to the mini-series no doubt. This sounds good. I have never read the novel.
This is very welcome news!!! Just when you believe that we’re never going to hear a thing about Billy for another six months or so, he surprises us!!
That’s exactly what I was thinking.
Well I know what I’ll be doing next spring… 🙂
This is great. I live in Chicago now for work and grad school (used to live in CA), so this will be an easy trip for me. Looking forward to it!
Seems like an awfully long way off to me, but I do need the time to get my finances in order. I want to spend some real time in Chicago and see & do a lot I haven’t gotten to do on my other trips. It doesn’t seem like almost a year since I went to Endgame so hopefully this year will go by quickly. Real glad he’s not doing a wintertime production. I don’t really love Chicago in the winter! Cannot wait to see Billy on stage again, there’s just nothing quite like it. Hope his role requires a lot of stage time; there’s a lot of folks in this one!
If I could get into UIC for directing and design, then maybe I wont have to fly out this time. So wish me good luck on my interview next week.
@Kiara
Good luck with your interview.
